Happy Halloween!
What better way to spend your Halloweekend than curled up close to your TV with an extra helping of scares? We’re here to fill your trick-or-treat sack full of scares, so here’s your Halloween guide to the creepiest, spookiest and, oh why not, maybe even cheeriest content available on Philo.
GRAB ONE FROM THE BOWL
Looking for one Hallowinner? See if any of these monster movies can give you a chill or thrill.
Monster High: The Movie (2022), Nickelodeon, available on VOD
Monster High tells the story of Clawdeen, who uncovers a wicked scheme that could end her high school, and also uncover her hidden identity as a half-human, half-werewolf. A Nick flick is sure to deliver some memorable songs – so this definitely qualifies as a trick and a treat.
Gremlins (1984), available on VOD
We’ll move from innocent teenage Nick drama, to adorable, yet lethal, killing fluffballs. After a gadget salesman is desperate to find a gift for his son, he settles on buying a “mogwai” that comes with some imperative orders. 1. Never expose it to bright light, water or feed it after midnight. Easy, right? Watch everybody’s favorite gremlin, Gizmo, to see if he can rein in the mayhem of his fellow critters.
The Exorcist (1973), available on VOD, or on AMC at 10:45 a.m. PST on Monday, October 31, 2022
Perhaps the most iconic modern horror movie of all time, The Exorcist is not for the faint of heart. When young Regan begins to act strange, her mother consults medical professionals. A solution not in sight, the family turns to a priest with hopes of exorcizing a demon. Good luck falling asleep!
SCAREATHONS AND NOT SO SCAREATHONS
Looking for a more immersive experience? Throw on one of these marathons and transport yourself into full-time Halloween.
Twilight series, MTV
Feeling more angsty, but like you still need a taste of… flesh? On Monday, MTV will run the Twilight series movies beginning at 3 a.m. PST. See which vampires and werewolves are making out and falling in love… or something? (OK, fine I haven’t seen, or read, Twilight. Sorry, y’all.)
Halloween movies, AMC
Michael Myers. Laurie Strode. The timeless and seemingly eternal violence is on repeat on AMC.Throughout the weekend, you can watch Michael Myers, and then on Halloween, it’s Halloween all day on AMC! All Michael Myers all the time. The supernatural killer is one of the all-time classics. Just make sure you don’t have any butcher’s knives lying around. Check the guide for exact times and movies.
Bewitched, FeTV, Monday, October 31, 2022, 10 a.m. ET
The friendly folks at FeTV are starting Halloween off right with a Bewitched marathon, running on Halloween day. Jump right in with Samantha’s nose wiggling powers and see how her and husband Darrin try to make the paranormal, normal.
Classic scares on FMC, sticking true to their name, will be running classic monster and scary movies all weekend. Viewers can find classics and more. Check out the entire lineup in the guide.
